Familia Tunes

Answer:

SOULFUL MELODY

Each portrait in the ofrenda features character(s) from a certain Disney movie and has a corresponding sound clip of an iconic tune from that movie. The sound clips are ordered alphabetically by song title, so they will need to be matched and reordered.

The caveat is that each tune has an incorrect lyric which should be identified. For example, the "Remember Me" (a song from Coco) clip replaced the word "apart" with "guitars."

Returning to the ofrenda, you might notice that each portrait contains a hidden number. Indexing this number into the erroneous lyric yields a letter for each portrait. Reading from top-to-bottom and left-to-right, you should get SKELETOONS (a made-up portmanteau of "skeletons" and "toons"). Submitting this yields:

Great job! In remembrance of these iconic Disney tunes, send us a short audio or video clip of your team performing your own parody of a Disney tune to get the final answer. Please email darocaropuzzles@gmail.com with "[SKELETOONS]", your team name, and your parody's title in the subject line. 🥳

Upon emailing us, you'll get a reply giving you the final answer:

Thanks for the SOULFUL MELODY! 🎶❤️

Author's Notes

A music-themed puzzle seemed really appropriate for Coco, given the importance of music in the film. There many iconic Disney songs, and given that family is another important theme, it made sense to us to include a number of Disney tunes in an ofrenda layout.

We originally took this puzzle in a different direction where all the tunes were sung correctly and solvers simply indexed the hidden numbers into the song titles. However, that seemed too straightforward. Given we wanted to include one puzzle in which teams would have to interact with us in some way (e.g. send us a drawing or meme), and given the wide breadth of Disney music and creative nature of parodies, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to hear some of the creative parodies all of you come up with as well. :)

We're also pretty satisfied with the punny title for this puzzle. "Familia" is Spanish for "family," but also sounds like "familiar." "Tunes" and "toons" (as in cartoons) are homonyms, which is appropriate since we're using tunes from toons. When we realized "skeletons" (thematic with Coco) almost ends with "toons" (kinda), it was too perfect not to use.

"Bloopers": As a bonus, we had a couple of funny moments when one of our playtesters (who doesn't know any of these songs) misheard "Certain as the sun" for "Satan as the sun" and "Beauty and the books" for "Beauty and the bust." They were (rightfully) confused and we had a good laugh.
